Built on first-hand interviews with more than 80 former whalers, alongside archival records, thousands of old diaries, and historic photographs.
The rise, daily operations, and eventual decline of New Zealand’s last major commercial whaling station, operated by the Italian-descended Perano family (founded by Joseph Perano in 1911 and ending on December 21, 1964).
