The Runanga Borough Council celebrated its 75th Anniversary in June 1986, commemorating the borough's establishment in 1912. To mark the occasion, a commemorative historical booklet titled Runanga Borough Council 75th Anniversary (1912–1987), edited by Jack Ewen, was published and documented the rich coal mining history of the area.
