We started making these for social studies classes so the children could try a traditional quill pen, just as the medieval scribes used for their writing.
Made from a goose primary flight feather and tempered the traditional way to harden the tip, these quills are shaped to a chisel point approximately 1mm wide. If you want the tip unshaped, just let us know. Be aware that these pens require a very soft touch.
These quills are untrimmed so you can do the final grooming to suit yourself. The scribes of old would typically trim off the feather to a more sensible length and remove the barbs near the tip so it was easier to control. If you're into calligraphy, you can't beat the natural feel of a quill pen.
Each pen will be slightly different from the photograph as each one is a unique creation.
